Applications

Medical

Silicone rubbers are attracting more and more attention in medical technology, in particular due to their physiological harmlessness, i.e. the absence of plasticizers, and their biological, odorless and taste-neutrality. They have a long service life even under mechanical, physical and chemical loads. This results in very good sterilizability, whether through steam sterilization or with cleaning agents and disinfectants. As a result, silicones meet the high hygienic requirements in medical technology and are used in hoses, seals in surgical devices, ventilation masks or incubators.

We have established an extensive quality management system in order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone rubber compounds.

We rely on permanent quality monitoring of all manufacturing processes and continuous digital data acquisition, which guarantees the traceability of your product at all times, right down to the raw materials we use. An essential part of the monitoring of our product quality is the testing of our compounds in the company's own test laboratories.

In addition, SILCOMP products meet FDA/BfR compliance and various medical technology requirements (acc. various USP classes).

Construction and Sanitary

Due to its very good weather resistance, which has little effect on the external and functional properties and coloring of silicone, the material is ideal for products in facade and window construction. The same applies in the sanitary area, where the silicones are exposed to high levels of moisture and sometimes aggressive media in dynamic temperature ranges and have to withstand the same high demands in terms of drinking water and physiological compatibility.

This functional and aesthetic durability, as well as the basic property profile of the silicone elastomers, essentially contribute to the fact that silicones are used more and more frequently in products in construction and in the sanitary sector. Climate zones and seasons do not play a role.

Another decisive criterion is the flame retardancy of silicone elastomers. Fire protection is becoming more and more important in the construction industry and thus leads to more and more new requirement profiles for building materials. But legal requirements also define the requirements for silicones. For example, all materials that come into contact with drinking water must not emit any harmful substances, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs/SVOCs/COCs). In addition, due to its odor-free, tasteless and anti-allergenic properties, silicone is excellent for use in sanitary consumer goods.

We have established an extensive quality management system in order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone rubber compunds. We rely on permanent quality monitoring of all manufacturing processes and continuous digital data acquisition, which guarantees the traceability of your product at all times, right down to the raw materials we use. Aerospace

In the aerospace industry in particular, material failure can have catastrophic consequences. Reliable materials with a long service life are necessary. With their strong electrical insulation properties, their flexibility at low temperatures down to -100°C and heat stability up to 300°C as well as their low flammability, silicones offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications for aerospace engineering.

Due to the very good media resistance to fuels, mineral oils and greases as well as the high mechanical elasticity of silicone, they are used in hydraulic seals, engine seals or in the run-in coating in jet engines. The water resistance of silicone is also very important for sealing and bonding in the sanitary, kitchen and cabin area or sealing profiles for aircraft windows. This protects the cabin interior and electrical components from moisture. The noise and vibration damping properties are just as decisive for the use of silicone elastomers in the aerospace industry. Silicone acts here as a barrier for vibrations and sound, thanks to the good compression set and remains elastic.

In space travel, for example, silicones are used for antistatic bonding of satellite components, in particular due to their high radiation resistance, high flexibility at low temperatures and minimal outgassing rates (avoidance of delamination phenomena).

Electronics and Cable Technology

Due to the excellent insulating properties of silicone, the material is an indispensable component in the electronics industry. In particular, the very good mechanical elasticity properties, which in addition to the insulation properties are available over the wide temperature range from approx. -50 to 300°C, enable a wide range of applications in the electronics and cable industry.

The water-repellent surfaces of silicone, as well as the associated low water absorption, are also decisive application criteria for a wide variety of silicone mixtures. However, highly filled, conductive silicones are also used as seals in EMC/EMI protection or as heat-conducting seals.

In particular, the very good UV and weather resistance make the material interesting for demanding applications, for example outdoors. Especially in systems that are exposed to moisture, dust and temperature fluctuations as well as other critical environmental influences, high-performance silicones are important for long-term usability. Therefore, the demand for these silicones in electronics manufacturing is continuously increasing.

We have established an extensive quality management system in order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone rubber compounds. Consumer

In particular, due to the physiological harmlessness of silicone elastomers, i.e. the odor and taste neutrality and the biocompatibility, silicones find numerous applications in personal use. They meet all important national and international food standards, are safe to use and are easy to clean and disinfect. Silicones are used in kitchen utensils, baking molds and, especially due to the absence of plasticizers, in toys.

On the one hand, silicone elastomers have high flexibility at low temperatures at temperatures down to -50°C and, on the other hand, good heat resistance up to 300°C. Because of this and because of their resistance to moisture, silicone elastomers are used in refrigerator seals, steamers, ovens or hoses, and seals for coffee machines. But silicone elastomers can also be found in sports and leisure equipment such as diving and ski goggles, in textile applications, in knee pads, wearables or in backpacks.

In order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone elastomer mixtures, we have established an extensive quality management system. Food and Farming

In the food industry, physiological safety is a must. Silicone elastomers meet these high requirements and meet the most important national and international requirements for the food industry. The product requirements vary depending on the area of application in the food industry. For drive rollers for conveyor belts, for valves for the food industry or for seals in filling systems for the beverage industry, the high media resistance and long service life due to the ever increasing utilization of the systems are decisive. In agricultural engineering, silicone elastomers are used in direct contact with animals or in hoses or molded parts with direct contact with food, as they meet the high hygienic and mechanical requirements.

Physiological harmlessness, the high media resistance and the good flexibility at low temperatures down to -50°C of the silicone play a decisive role here.

We have established an extensive quality management system in order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone rubber compounds. Mobility and Railway

Silicone rubbers are high-performance materials that are used in all areas of vehicle construction due to their mechanical, physical and chemical performance as well as their long service life. They are used in seals, NVH applications, in hoses, cables, electronics and connectors in cars, trucks, agricultural machinery and construction vehicles. Silicone rubbers are also used as a sealing material in fuel cells and in EVs (electrical vehicles) or as a sealing and insulating material in long-distance and local trains and buses. In rail technology and e-mobility in particular, the requirements placed on silicone materials, particularly in terms of temperature and fire behavior, are increasing.

Silicone has a very good resilience and durability, especially in demanding and adverse environments. In order to be able to offer our customers added value in comparison with other organic elastomer materials, the self-extinguishing properties of the silicone elastomers are therefore essential. The longevity of the silicones, especially in demanding environments, shows in an almost unchanged property profile after the use of the silicones for up to 15 years. Furthermore, the UV and ozone resistance guarantees long-term use without major visual losses.

We have established an extensive quality management system in order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone mixtures. We rely on permanent quality monitoring of all manufacturing processes and continuous digital data acquisition, which guarantees the traceability of your product at all times, right down to the raw materials we use. An essential part of the monitoring of our product quality is the testing of our compounds in the company's own test laboratories.

In addition, we work for the transport and railway sector in accordance with the NF F 16-101, DIN EN 45545-2 and DIN 5510 standards applicable to rail vehicles, as well as the Firetest to Railway Components BS 6853 or US NFPA130. If necessary, further application-relevant material tests are carried out.

Industry and Plant Engineering

The requirements for technical materials and machine parts are very different due to the complex and versatile use. We speak of pure molded parts, of parts with sealing and damping functions or operating elements. Silicone elastomers offer a wide range of properties. Hardnesses from Shore A 05 to 90 and thus very soft, foamed but also hard silicone elements can be generated.

Because of this and the good compression set, silicones can be precisely adapted to the most varied of geometries. At the same time, silicone elastomer components retain their properties when they come into contact with a wide variety of media, such as oil, fuel and aggressive chemicals. As a result, silicone is used in couplings for shipbuilding, in stators or rubber-metal parts. Silicone parts are used in water treatment plants thanks to their physiological harmlessness and drinking water compatibility. Silicones can also be found in rollers for the plastics industry, the printing industry, the paper industry or the steel and metal industry, in particular due to their high media resistance, wide hardness range and very good heat and cold resistance (-50°C - 300°C). Examples of this are squeegee rollers in chemical baths,Glue application rollers and roller covers for textile production.

NHV/Sealing and Vibration Technology

In large-scale plants, e.g. for the extraction and processing of oil and gas, in water treatment plants or in chemical plants, silicones are used in many ways in seals or in vibration technology for vibration isolation and vibration damping. Depending on the area of application, very soft, foamed or hard seals are used. Due to the wide hardness range from Shore A 05 to 90 and the good compression set of silicone elastomers, they meet the highest demands on contour accuracy. These molded parts are often exposed to extreme conditions such as UV radiation, moisture, heat, cold, large temperature fluctuations and sometimes aggressive chemicals, in which the silicone elastomer components must always guarantee the highest process reliability.

Due to the good UV, ozone and weather stability, the high media resistance as well as the good cold flexibility and high heat resistance, silicone rubber compounds meet these high requirements after vulcanization at the component manufacturer in the final application.

We have established an extensive quality management system in order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone mixtures. Specialties

Silicone elastomer is very versatile. By adding conductive particles, silicones become electrically conductive and are therefore ideally suited for commercial, civil and military applications in terms of environmental impermeability and EMC shielding. By embedding high-quality silver in silicone, the high EMI/RFI standards and special security requirements of the military sector can be met.

Silicone filled with carbon is used, for example, for shielding and sealing electrical housings and connectors in the defense, electronics and medicine sectors. In addition to its electrical conductivity, silicone retains the basic characteristics required for these areas (elasticity, good compression set, high tensile strength, low flammability, media resistance, longevity, temperature resistance between -50 and 300°C).

Liquid silicones (LSR) combine the properties of solid silicones, high and low temperature resistance, very good aging behavior and high electrical insulating properties, with a low viscosity and thus good flow and processing properties. As a result, complex, filigree and very small molded parts are often made from LSR, especially in areas with high quantities. In medical technology, liquid silicones are used, for example, for cardiac catheters, ventilation masks, hoses, syringes, dialysis filters, implants, membranes and port catheter systems. In the household and sanitary sector, liquid silicones are used for jet inserts for shower fittings, pacifiers or in highly transparent form for contact lenses.

In the automotive industry, LSR types are used for membranes for central locking systems, rain sensors or, for example, for protective jackets in spark plug connectors. In electrical engineering, liquid silicones are found in safety mats, plug connections, on electronic components, in battery cell seals and electrical plugs.

We have established an extensive quality management system in order to meet these product and application-specific needs, as well as the legal standards and specifications and to offer increasingly high-performance silicone rubber compounds.
